Private hospital in Mawlamyine suspended by junta
May 7, 2024
HURFOM: On May 1st, 2024, the Aye Than Dar Private Hospital in Mawlamyine, Mon State was suspended from providing medical services for three months. The military junta has accused the hospital of recruiting nurses who contributed to the “Civil Disobedience Movement – CDM”.
“The hospital was suspended on May 1st. The patients were forcefully discharged immediately on that day. The authorities said it’s the order from Naypyidaw. The patients are having problems,” said a source close to the private hospital.
This is the first suspension of a private hospital in Mon State.
“(The junta wants to send a message), saying, recruitment of CDM staff will cause the closure of the hospital. It’s just intimidation,” said a CDM nurse.
According to a May 1st, 2024 report by the Association for the Assistance Political Prisoners (AAPP), 11 private hospitals and clinics across Burma were closed or suspended by the military junta.
