The victims have not yet been released, even though their arrest took place over a week ago, according to sources close to their families.
“The regiment left Kyauk Mae Taung village and went to Mitta Town. Then, they found four displaced villagers catching fish in a stream nearby Ka Lit Gyi village and arrested them,” said the sources.
The arrested include, 30-year-old Ko Win Zaw Lay and Ma Win Than, 29-year-old Ko Lin Htet Kyaw Zwar and 18-year-old Ko Myint Myat Aung. All are from Taung Tone Lon village.
The young men fled from their village to take shelter at Ka Lit Gyi village on March 1st when the junta launched air assault in Dawei Eastern Forest Area.
“As of today, we’ve lost contact with them and have heard nothing about them. Their family members are worrying about them as the arrest is already more than a week,” said a local source.
Due to armed conflicts and heavy air assaults by the junta, more than 7,000 villagers from 12 villages in Dawei Eastern Forest Area have fled their homes and are in urgent need of food and medicine.
