HURFOM: Since February 17th, 2024, there has been an intense battle between the military junta and the joint forces of the Karen National Liberation Army and the People’s Defense Force in Dawei Eastern Forest area, Dawei Township, Tenasserim Division.

The battle forced approximately 3,000 residents from seven villages – Tha Yet Ngote, Lake Kyel Pyaung, Thin Gan Tone, Wa Gone, Ba Wa Pin, Kyauk Mel Taung, Taung Tone Lone and Shwe Chaung villages to find a shelter in nearby forest and plantation.

We’ve requested local organizations for food. We have food donors but it’s difficult to transport food here. Some villagers have gone back home but most of them are still in hiding as the battle is still intense,” said a social worker who helps displaced persons.

The military junta launched four air assaults on the Dawei Eastern Forest area.

The displaced rush to hide when they hear the sound of helicopters,” said the social worker.
