Monk sustains serious injury from landmine near junta’s check-point

HURFOM: On January 19th, 2024, a traveling monk stepped on a landmine near a military junta’s check-point between Tha Yet Hna Kwa and Pan Pyin villages, Tha Yet Chaung Township, Dawei District, Tenasserim Division and sustained a serious injury.

The injured monk was sent to the Dawei General Hospital by ambulance. He lost a leg from the explosion,” said a resident from a nearby village.

The monk stopped the car to urinate and then stepped on a landmine. The explosion was just 100 yards away from the military check-point.

The local community is concerned about potential explosions and do not go to places near the military check-point.

In 2023, there were 13 landmine explosions in the Tenasserim Division, killing at least three people.
