Traveler’s sustain minor injuries in armed clash near Maw Ka Nin, Ye Township

HURFOM: At 7 am on January 20th, 2024, an armed clash took place at the “Suspension Bridge” police check-point near Maw Ka Nin village, Ye Township, Mon State and some travelers sustained minor injuries.

The joint revolutionary forces attacked the police base which had about 100 troops and hundreds of vehicles and travelers were stuck in the armed clash and some sustained injuries. 

The 106th Light Infantry Battalion based in Maw Ka Nin, launched artillery attacks in support of their troops which injured some travelers. The exact number of injured victims is still unknown.

We went to Mawlamyine but were stuck on the road due to an armed clash at the “Suspension Bridge” (police check-point). Both heavy and small weapons were being used, so we had to hide in a rush. An artillery shell dropped and exploded nearby the 4th vehicle from us and some travelers sustained injuries. A monastery was on fire due to artillery explosion,” said one traveler.

The injured victims were sent to Ye General Hospital for further treatment.

On January 17, 2024, the joint revolutionary forces attacked and burnt down a military check-point that had been extorting money from villagers.  In response, the nearby military base launched indiscriminate artillery attacks.
