Artillery attacks in Thaton injure child and destroy two houses

HURFOM: At about 10 am on January 1st 2024, the 9th Light Infantry Battalion based in Thaton launched at least eight indiscriminate artillery attacks on V Yaw and Htone Boe Gyi villages. There had been no provocation by revolutionary forces to warrant an attack.
The artillery explosion injured 9-year-old Saw Kaung Khant Kyaw from Htone Boe Gyi. The child suffered injuries to the left calf and destroyed two houses, reported the Thaton District Karen National Union.
“The military has targeted V Yaw village with artillery attacks nearly every day. The artillery shells exploded in Htone Boe Gyi. A child was injured. The KNU’s medical team provided treatment and now, he will recover,” said a Htone Boe Gyi resident.
The constant artillery attacks have left residents feeling unsafe to go to their workplace and all households have had to dig bomb shelters for their safety.
On December 19, 2023, the junta’s artillery attack killed a 26-year-old pregnant woman and injured her two-year-old child in Kyone Main village, Thaton Township, Mon State.
