HURFOM: The junta’s soldiers from the check-point near Kha Yone Gu village, Kyikemayaw Township, Mon State are forcing villagers to show their ID cards and if they have failed to do so, the soldiers arrest and extort them.

I have to use that route everyday and I have always been checked whenever I have passed the gate. The students must show their student cards. The local villagers have to show ID cards or driving licenses. If not, they are extorted,” said a student who experienced the event.

Those who fail to show ID cards or driving licenses must pay from 5,000 MMK to 15,000 MMK to the soldiers.

Tension between the military junta and the revolutionary forces are ongoing in the area and the junta has tightened its security.

The check-point stops not only motorbikes but also trucks and family cars. If you fail to show your ID card, you’re fined,” said one local resident.
