HURFOM: Local villagers reported to HURFOM that in October and November, 2023, the military junta burnt down approximately 40 houses in Mu Du village, Yebyu Township, Tenasserim Division.
During the attack in October, the junta burnt 20 houses. Then, in the third week of November, 2023, more than 100 troops entered Mu Du villages and burnt down another 17 houses.
“Before leaving the village, the military regiment looted and destroyed houses. Now, some villagers have returned to their home but they’re struggling for their sustenance,” said a local source.
When they left the village, the military regiment arrested and took two villagers, tying their hands behind their backs.
“Their family members haven’t had contact with them and they haven’t been released yet,” said a Mu Du resident.
Due to the frequent military attacks, the torching of houses, arresting and killing residents, wealthy villagers have moved to Dawei City. Other residents with limited means, have had no choice but to remain in the village and sleep at nearby plantations for their security.
