Junta threatens to burn down entire village

HURFOM: On November 12, 2023, revolutionary forces were active around Taung Ka Lya and Mell Ta Yoe villages, Kyikemayaw Township, in Mon State. In response, the military junta threatened to burn down the whole village, if the revolutionary forces entered the villages again.
A local monk shared this development with HURFOM.
The threat has led villagers from Taung Ka Lay, Mell Ta Yoe and Chaung Hna Kwa villages, Kyikemayaw Township, to flee their homes.
“The Burmese army said they would burn down the entire village if they found the revolutionary forces entering the village. The villagers got frightened when they heard the threat. When the revolutionary forces attacked (military bases in) Chaung Hna Kwa village, everyone here ran away,” said the monk.
Since November 11, 2023,revolutionary forces have been active around Mon villages in Kyikemayaw Township, Mon State and Kyarinnseikyi Township, Karen State.
“Our villages have become the front line. We have to fear every regiment. We have to fear artillery attack, air assault and armed clashes. We had a bad experience in the past so we’re ready to run away. We’ve had a mental trauma,” said a social worker from Ka Nar Low village, Kyikemayaw Township.
On November 12, 2023, the Mudon Township based artillery battalion launched reckless artillery attacks that killed two young girls in Paw Law Gone village, Kyikemayaw Township, Mon State.
