Landmine explodes twice in a week in a rubber plantation in Kyike Hto

HURFOM: On November 11, 2023, a rubber plantation worker stepped on a landmine in a rubber plantation owned by the Prison Department near Thit Sake Pin village, Thaton Township, in Mon State.

The worker has suffered a serious injury due to the explosion.

The right foot of 18-year-old Maung Way Lin Toon was totally damaged and he also sustained injuries to his left calf and left hand.

Many people here are rubber tapping for their living. We’ve heard that the victim had to have leg amputated,” said a resident from Thit Sake Pin village.

Maung Way Lin Toon was sent to Thaton District General Hospital by the assistance of a local rescue team.

The landmine explosion is the second within five days in the area.

Landmine explosions have recently taken place in the area so many people have worries,” said a resident.

On November 6, three young boys from Kin Moon Chone village, Thaton Township were killed by a landmine explosion.
