More than 1,000 villagers flee homes due to constant artillery attacks in Kyike Hto

HURFOM: The military junta has unleashed a constant battery of artillery attacks on Kha Ywel village, Kyike Hto Township, Mon State forcing more than 1,000 villagers to flee their homes.
On November 7, 2023, the Karen National Liberation Army and the People’s Defense Forces attacked the office of the General Administration Department in Thein Za Yet Town, Kyike Hto Township. In response, the Thein Za Yet based, 310th artillery regiment sent a barrage of artillery attacks targeting Kha Ywel and surrounding villages.
“There have been constant artillery attacks since noon. There were approximately 50 attacks. No one dares to stay in the village. Some villagers are hiding in the bomb shelters but most have already run away,” said a Kha Ywel resident.
The villagers had only just returned in September, 2023 following previous junta attacks. Now, they have had to flee their homes again.
Kha Ywel village has a population of 2,000 and is under control of the Brigade #1 of the Thaton District Karen National Union.
Most wealthy villagers moved to Thein Za Yet Town and other safe places in Kyike Hto Township.
