Civilian truck hits landmine on Yangon-Mawlamyine Highway — two people sustain injuries

HURFOM: On the morning of October 23rd, 2023, a civilian truck struck a landmine placed on the  Yangon-Mawlamyine Highway near Ka Mar Sai village, Thaton Township, Mon State and two people sustained injuries.

The truck was traveling from Paung Township to Thaton Township.  The driver, U Wunna Kyaw sustained  an injury at the lower part of his neck and his wife Daw Htet Htet Aung received a head injury.

The couple is originally from Bo Ka Lay Town, Irrawaddy Division. They were driving school teachers (from Irrawaddy Division) to Mon State when they struck the  landmine on their way back. The husband is in critical condition,” said a member of the local rescue team.

The two victims were sent to Thaton District General Hospital by the local rescue team. The husband was deemed to be in critical condition so he was later transferred to Yangon General Hospital.

Local people warn passengers traveling along the Yangon-Mawlamyine Highway to make a U-turn if they encounter any armed clash.
