Military junta arrests and beats villagers in the Kyauk Ne Maw area

HURFOM: On October 13, 2023, the military junta launched an operation in Inn Ne Twin village near Kyauk Ne Maw village, Long Lone Township, Tenasserim Division. The military unit arrested and beat local villagers and then destroyed and burnt down houses.
“They said they would not arrest villagers so many stayed in their homes with the door open. But then soldiers dragged them out, arrested and beat them,” said one villager who managed to escape.
Many villagers, including women, were arrested and beaten.
“As soon as they entered the village, they arrested a woman and beat her. Then, they released her. They arrested another four men and beat them again. Only two people were released. They ordered the villagers at the tea shop to lower their heads and they beat another villager at the shop,” said an Inn Ne Twin resident.
The military junta also burnt down houses. HURFOM was able to confirm that two houses were destroyed.
“We’re playing “cane ball”. When we saw them, we tried to run away. They shouted they would shoot us if we ran away. They ordered us to lay on the ground and kicked us,” said an Inn Ne Twin villager who was recently released.
On October 4, 2023, a military junta operation in Kyauk Ne Maw resulted in the evacuation of more than 1,000 villagers from nearby three villages.
