Villagers frightened as junta’s artillery attack frequently hit homes in Long Lone

HURFOM: From October 5th to the 10th, 2023, a military unit based in Thel Pone Mount, Long Lone Township, Tenasserim Division launched frequent artillery attacks on nearby villages. The bombardment of artillery shells has exploded numerous houses. Villagers fear for their lives.
“When the whole family is sleeping at night, in our home, we worry that artillery shells will hit our house,” said a resident from Long Lone Township.
Since May, 2023, the military unit from Thel Pone Mount has indiscriminately used both heavy and small weapons whenever they see lights at night or any sign of movement, local villagers told HURFOM.
“At about 8:30 pm on October 6, an artillery shell dropped and exploded in the plantation behind my house. I dare not go to the plantation as of today. The military junta also threatened us that they would shoot anyone who goes to the area, so we haven’t checked the damage in my plantation yet,” said a resident from Min Yet village.
On October 5, 2023, the military junta was attacked by the People’s Defense Force near Min Yet and surrounding villages. In response, the junta launched artillery attacks on nearby villages.
