HURFOM: On July 19, 2023, Mawlamyine, the capital of Mon State, flooded due to continuous and heavy rain. Three children drowned in the flood, according to a Mawlamyine rescue team.
The deceased victims were a one-and-half-year-old girl from Thiri Mingalar #17 Street and two 13-year-old boys from Thiri Myine #8 Street.
“The one-and-half-year-old girl lived with her grandma. (On that day) she was missing and found drowned in the house compound,” said a Mawlamyine resident.
Heavy rains fell continuously on July 18th and 19th flooding most of the wards in Mawlamyine, forcing residents to evacuate.
