HURFOM: On July 15, 2023, about 120 members of the military junta entered Na Bu Lae region, Yebyu Township, Tenasserim Division and arrested 15 workers from a plantation near Ka Det Eye village.
Local sources reported to HURFOM that the military then used them as human shields for a military operation.
“Women were also arrested. After the arrest, the military column traveled to A Ka Ni and Kha Moung villages,” said a local resident.
Since July 11, the military junta has conducted military operations village by village. They have entered Lel Shaung, Kha Moung Chaung, Ma Yin Gyi, Pa Ra Det and Htein Gyi villages that are part of the Dawei Special Economic Zone.
The military arrests villagers and releases them only after arriving at their destination.
“Most residents from A Ka Ni, Kha Moung Chaung and Ka Det Eye villages have fled from their homes. Soldiers were wearing civilian clothes during these military operations,” said a Yebyu resident.
On July 15, the military junta also arrested four Kha Moung Chaung villagers and three Lel Shaung villagers and they were only released in the evening.
