Two killed and nearly twenty arrested in Kha Lae – Da Gon Die armed clash

HURFOM: On July 14, 2023, the military junta and the joint forces of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and the People’s Defense Forces (PDF) had a heavy armed clash in Kha Lae – Da Gon Die area, Kyarinnseikyi Township, Karen State.
A truck was attacked between Pu Lane and Kha Lae village and two men were shot and killed. Another 15 passengers were arrested by the military junta.
“The military entered Nyein Chan Myine village on July 12 and an armed clash took place with the KNLA and the PDF. There is fighting and shooting every day,” said a villager near the Kha Lae – Da Gon Die area.
In addition to passengers on the truck, four plantation workers from Pu Lane village were also arrested by the junta. The junta used them as human shields, according to villagers who were recently released.
Due to the armed clash, thousands of villagers from Kha Lae, Da Gon Die, Nan Tie Tun, Pu Lane, Naung Dae, Da Gon Tie Yaw Lay, Myo Houng, Kha Lae Yaw Lay and Phaya Ngar Zu villages have fled from their homes.
