Civilian killed in Kyike Hto armed clash

HURFOM: On the morning of July 16, 2023, an armed clash took place between the military junta and the joint forces of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and the People’s Defense Forces (PDF) near Zee Gone village, Kyike Hto Township, Mon State.
30-year-old Ko Pie Chit Oo who was heading to Hngat Pyaw Taw village by motorbike encountered the armed clash. He was shot and died at the scene.
“As the junta launched their military operation, villagers ran away. He didn’t know about that and went to Hngat Pyaw Taw. He encountered the armed clash and was shot and killed. The military seized his motorbike,” said a villager from Zee Gone village.
The victim was sent to Hngat Pyaw Taw village with the help of local residents.
As a result of the armed clash 1,000 villagers from Zee Gone and neighboring villages fled their homes.
