A child steps on landmine and dies in Thane Zayat

HURFOM: On July 13, 2023, a 12-year-old child from War Dat Kwin village near Thane Zayat Town, Kyike Hto Township, Mon State stepped on a landmine and died, according to local sources.
The victim was Maung Chan Aye. He stepped on a landmine while looking after cattle. His right leg was seriously lacerated, and he died of blood loss.
“He was a child suffering from deafness. He took care of others’ cattle. His mother is pregnant. His funeral was held on July 14,” said a War Dat Kwin villager.
The area where the landmine exploded is four furlongs away from the Thane Zayat based 207th Light Infantry Battalion.
“The area is controlled by the 207th LIB. They’ve planted landmines as we’ve frequently attacked them with artillery weapons. Since then, we’ve just attacked them with drones,” said Ko Aye Min Tun, an official from Thaton District People Defense Forces.
