HURFOM: At approximately 7 am on July 11, 2023, 45-year-old U Aung Myint Kyi from Naung Kalar village, Thaton Township, Mon State stepped on a landmine and was seriously injured.

The incident occurred near Myay Ne Gone village, which is located beside the Yangon-Mawlamyine Highway Road.

While traveling to Thaton Town on his tricycle, he stopped briefly and stepped on a landmine.

When we reached the patient, he had lost a lot of blood. We sent him to the hospital. He was in a critical condition,” said a member of a local rescue team.

U Aung Myint Kyi suffered  injuries to his abdomen and legs and was sent to Thaton District General Hospital.

On July 6, a landmine exploded near Ka Le Kon village, Thaton Township also alongside the Yangon-Mawlamyine Highway Road. Two men on the motorbike were injured in that incident.

Now we dare not go outside. We’re afraid of “when a landmine explodes” and “when we are shot”. We have to suffer alone,” said a Thaton resident.
