Junta imposes more movement restrictions in Yebyu

HURFOM: On July 3, 2023, local sources reported to HURFOM that the junta blocked access to the roadway connecting Kan Bauk and Ka Lane Aung Towns, Yebyu Township, in Tenasserim Division.

The junta’s troops were stationed at the exit of Kan Bauk Road and stopped vehicles traveling from Kan Bauk to Mawlamyine. The soldiers banned vehicles from going to Dawei and ordered them to turn around and go back.

We thought we could travel as usual so we collected passengers. But when arriving at the roadway, we met with the junta’s troops and they blocked us. All the cars had to turn around as they told us to go back,” said a driver.

The Kan Bauk – Ka Lane Aung Road is a main route for transporting goods between Yangon, Myawaddy and Mawlamyine. Blocking the roadway resulted in a dramatic rise in commodity prices in the local area.
