HURFOM: According to field reporters, on June 30, 2023, artillery attacks launched by military junta killed one villager and injured another two in Kaw Ka Rate and Kyarinnseikyi Township, an area controlled by the Karen National Union (KNU).
At 8:50 pm on June 30, the 283rd Light infantry Battalion (LIB) based in Kyarinnseikyi Township launched a 120-mm artillery attack on Ta Gay village. The attack killed a villager.
The artillery shell exploded in a rubber farm near the village killing 44-year-old Saw Soe Lin.
At 7:20 pm on June 30, the 275th LIB launched four 120-mm artillery attacks targeting Mae Ka Nell village, Kaw Ka Rate Township and injured 76-year-old Naw Ma Ngo and 10-year-old Naw Ae Phaw Khali.
The military junta continues to target innocent civilians in KNU controlled areas, forcing them to leave their homes.
“Currently, there are approximately 1,000 villagers from four or five villages (who have had to flee from their homes). They are in urgent need of food and shelter in this rainy season. The junta continues to attack their villages with artillery weapons so they can’t go back home,” said a member of a ground team that supports internally displaced persons.
