Dawei detainee dies in interrogation center

HURFOM: A credible source confirmed this morning that one of 8 Dawei residents who were arbitrarily abducted and interrogated over the past few days died in one of the junta’s detention centers in #Dawei.
Along with seven other civilians, Ko Kyaw Thura, 31 was arrested by the junta council on May 15. He has been reported missing since his arrest. Ko Kyaw Thura, was from Dawn Ngu ward of Dawei town.
On May 15, the agents of the junta’s intelligence lured Ko Kyaw Thura to the corner of Utta Kyi Road in downtown Dawei. He was then arrested by junta military soldiers.
“The junta corps often torture people after arresting them. I think that’s why he died. He was arrested on May 15. I thought I would see him with others at the Dawei police station on May 19, said a friend of Ko Kyaw Thura.
The source, who is close to the Dawei Police Station, told reporters that “the police said that he died while being questioned during an interrogation.”
Family members are seeking to have his body returned.
Three women and five men in total were arrested on May 15 – 16. At the time of publication, only one woman and one man were released on bail yesterday morning.
Those who were released indicated that the remaining five would be charged under Penal Code Section 505(a).
