Ah Nin residents flee their homes as soldiers enter village

HURFOM: On May 18, 2023, a Karen armed group entered Ah Nin village, Thanbyuzayat Township, Mon State which led to an armed clash with the Burmese army. The Ah Nin Police Station then indiscriminately launched the artillery attacks targeting surrounding areas.
On May 19, a large number of Burmese soldiers entered the village and established their base.
With tensions growing, Ah Nin residents fled their homes and hid in a nearby rubber plantation. Some villagers moved to the surrounding villages..
“The villagers are running away. We’ve heard the sound of gunshots for three consecutive days in our village. Now, a lot of soldiers are at the railway station. Some said the Karen armed group is also active nearby the village. The villagers are running away as they’re afraid of armed clashes. The situation isn’t peaceful. We have to live in fear,” said a local woman.
