Two farm workers killed, 4 injured in artillery attack in Kyaik Hto

HURFOM: On March 27, 2023, two farm workers from Mae Yone Lay village, Kyaik Hto Township, Mon State were killed by another military junta artillery attack.
Artillery shells shot by the military’s base at the Ma Yan Chaung Inspection Gate, exploded in a farm killing two workers, and injuring four others.
“At noon of that day, the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and its joint forces attacked the security forces (at the Ma Yan Chaung Gate). That night, the military responded by shooting 60 MM artillery weapons about ten times,” said a source.
22-year-old Maung Shan Htet Aung, died at the scene and 24-year-old Ko Saw Naung died soon after arriving at the Kyaik Hto General Hospital. The four injured workers were sent to Thaton District General Hospital for further treatment.
The military junta has accelerated its attacks on civilians in areas controlled by the KNLA.
Since 2023, at least seven villagers have been killed and 15 injured by artillery attacks in the Thaton District which is controlled by the KNLA.
