500 displaced villagers from Kyike Hto unable to return home

March 27, 2025

HURFOM: At late 2024, the 310th artillery regiment had launched military operation and artillery attack to villages in Kyike Hto Township, Mon State and more than 500 villagers of 166 households from Kyike Hto Town, Pha Yar Lay and Yay Way villages of Kyike Hto Township and Kyauk Lone Gyi village of Bilin Township have to flee from their home.

Those displaced villagers have been taking shelter in Mell La Lee village, Kyike Hto Township and their displacement has lengthened to more than five months but they are unable to return home as of today.

Now, there is no military advance but the junta is launching indiscriminate artillery attack. So, the villagers dare not to return their villages,” said a social worker who helps displaced villagers.

As their time of displacement has prolonged for months, the displaced villagers have been facing livelihood hardship.

As they have to flee for a long time, it’s getting difficult to make a livelihood. They haven’t returned our village so they’re worrying about their houses in the village,” said the social worker.

Since 2025, the junta’s indiscriminate artillery attack killed five local villagers and injured at least 20 residents in Kyike Hto Township.
