Military presence nearby Kyone Long village forces 500 villagers to flee home

HURFOM: On January 8th, 2025, a regiment consisted of about 30 troops has reached Kyone Long village, Ye Township, Mon State and stationed themselves at the “Dhamma Kar Yon Bo Ka Lay Monastery” nearby the village. The sudden military presence has frightened the local villagers and they have fled home in fear of possible armed clash.
The 316th artillery regiment had targeted Kyone Long village with artillery attack on January 8th without having any armed clash in the area and the regiment has invaded the area soon after the attack.
“We heard the sound of artillery attack in the morning and soon after that, about 30 troops reached the monetary nearby the village by military trucks. The local villagers are worrying about possible armed clash and fleeing home,” said a local villager.
The regiment stationed in the monastery has blocked the village road and seriously checked the villagers. In some cases, they have also beaten the villagers.
“They’ve stationed themselves beside the road and blocked the road. They’ve allowed on one to pass by. They’ve even beaten the pedestrians. A 35-year-old man was beaten with the rifle butt,” said a resident.
More than 500 villagers, including children and elderly persons, from Kyone Long village have to flee home and taken shelter at nearby mountain, forest and plantations. They are urgently in need of food and household items.
