Local woman injured by junta’s artillery attack in Thane Za Yet

HURFOM: At 4 pm on the Independence Day, January 4th, 2025, the Thane Za Yet based 310th artillery regiment targeted War Dat Kwin village, Kyike Hto Township, Mon State.  There were no armed clashes in the area, and the attack injured a local woman.

The regiment launched at least seven artillery attacks.  One of the artillery shells exploded in the village injuring a 24-year-old woman, who sustained injuries across her entire body.

The artillery shell was dropped in the early morning. A woman got injured. Now, she is receiving treatment at the Thane Za Yet Hospital,” said a War Dat Kwin villager.

On December 26th, 2024, the Thane Za Yet based 207th light infantry battalion launched at least four artillery attacks with one shell exploding seriously injuring 20-year-old Ma Aye Than Dar.

The attack took place in the morning. The artillery shell dropped beside U Aye Thaung’s house. His daughter is in critical condition. Debris from the artillery shells penetrated her abdomen and thigh,” said a War Dat Kwin resident.

As her injuries are serious, Ma Aye Than Dar has been transferred from the Thane Za Yet Hospital to the Kyike Hto Township General Hospital for further treatment.

War Dat Kwin village is under the control of the Brigade #1 of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) which operates under the Thaton District Karen National Union (KNU).   The village is largely inhabited by migrant workers.

According to the statement by the Thaton District Karen National Union (KNU), at least four residents were killed and five villagers were injured by the junta’s artillery attacks in December, 2024.
