HURFOM: On December 22nd, 2024, the junta controlled Ye District Court has sentenced two local women who lived in Aung Mitta Ward, Ye Town, Mon State to 15-year imprisonment each after accusing them of supporting the People Defense Force.
26-year-old Ma Ngae Ngae and 28-year-old Ma Aye Chan were arrested by the military junta since September 11th, 2024 and they had been detained at the 19th battalion for more than three months.
According to local sources, Ma Ngae Ngae was a staff from a grocery store and Ma Aye Cha worked as an agent for “Kpay” finance and digital payment.
“As far as we know, one of them was a “Kpay” agent and another one was a staff from a grocery store. They had connection with none of (armed) groups. The junta intentionally imposed the punishment to spread fear among young people,” said a Ye resident.
The two women have been sent to the Kyikemayaw Central Prison on December 23rd, 2024.
Since August, 2024, the military junta has arrested more than 30 residents, including former government staff who involved in “Civil Disobedience Movement – CDM”, in Ye Township after accusing them of supporting or having connection with the People Defense Force.
