HURFOM: On September 7th, 2024, the military junta arrested and extorted money from two local men from 12-Mile village, 10-Mile village tract, Kaw Thaung Township, Tenasserim Division.
Ko Pine Phyo and his friend went to Chan Phan village to buy “rubber slices” when they encountered a joint military patrol group. The soldiers and the Administrator, Kyaw Soe accused them of conducting a rubber trade without having an official license and arrested them.
“The reason for the arrest is buying rubber slices without a license. They’re unlucky as they encountered the military patrol,” said a resident from 10-Mile village track.
The junta said each person must pay one million MMK for their release and 30,000 Thai Baht must be paid for the release of their car, according to a local source.
“The two persons were released on the same day after the payment but they could pay for the car over the next two days,” said the source.
The junta-appointed Ban Ka Chun Administrator, Kywa Soe has monopolized the market of all local products in 10-Mile village track.
“He buys everything in the area. If other villagers buy (do trade), they’ll be arrested sooner or later. He doesn’t pay the market price so the residents don’t want to sell their product to him,” said a resident from Ban Ka Chun village.
