HURFOM: In the second week of August 2024, a huge battle between the military junta and the Karen National Liberation Army took place in Ah Nan Kwin village, Kyarinnseikyi Township, Karen State, and more than 4,000 residents from nearby ten villages had to flee their homes.
About 500 Ah Nan Kwin residents who took temporary shelter in the caves at the base of the mountain are in urgent need of assistance, according to a displaced person.
“We have to fight against wind and rain in the rainy season. The transportation is also bad. We want to go outside to buy food but we’re afraid of encountering a junta’s aerial attack,” said a displaced woman.
The displaced villagers also face flooding and a shortage of medicines. There is no individual or organization who is able to provide humanitarian aid.
“If you want to help us, you have to walk to the base of the mountain and no one dares to come to our place. If we are sick and want to see a doctor, we have to walk for about three miles,” said another displaced woman.
After the battle, the junta cut off the telecommunication in Ah Nan Kwin and nearby ten villages such as Ta Nyin, Phar Yar, Pan Aung, Pu Taw, Yet Phaw, Ka Tit and Khun Na War.
“Some displaced villagers haven’t had contact with their family members,” said a local woman.
During the battle, the military junta launched aerial and artillery attacks and burnt down 500 houses in Ah Nan Kwin village.
