Young man killed by junta’s artillery attack in Kyike Hto

HURFOM: On August 24th, 2024, the 310th artillery regiment based in Thane Za Yat Town, Kyike Hto Township, Mon State launched at least ten indiscriminate artillery attacks on nearby villages.

One artillery shell exploded in War Dat Kwin village and debris from the explosion killed 23-year-old Ko Chan Myae Aung on the spot.

As far as I know, resistance groups attacked the Thane Za Yat artillery regiment with an artillery attack and the regiment responded with indiscriminate shootings as usual. The deceased young man had an open wound in his abdomen,” said a War Dat Kwin resident.

Villagers reported to HURFOM that artillery shells also exploded in Mote Kha Maw, Tone Hkwa, Sitt Kwin and Ah Kine villages and those explosions killed three cattle in Mote Kha Maw village.

The villages targeted by the junta’s artillery attacks are under the control of the Thaton District Karen National Union and the Karen National Liberation Army, and the People’s Defense Forces are active in the area.

On July 23rd, 2024, the military junta launched an artillery attack on Pyin Ga Doe Gone village, Kyike Hto Township that killed eight villagers and injured six residents.
