HURFOM: On June 19th, 2024, a battle between the military junta and the resistance forces took place in Yar Phu village track, Yebyu Township, Tenasserim which is the area under the control of the New Mon State Party.
On June 20th, the junta responded with artillery and air assaults and burnt down more than 40 houses.
“The air assault destroyed only two houses. But after the armed clash, the junta’s troops burnt down the houses. The villagers fled and 20 residents who encountered the regiment were arrested. They are being detained in a monastery,” said a resident of Myauk Chaw village.
The soldiers have threatened that they would be shot and killed if they tried to run away.
The junta has assumed that nine villages – Myauk Chaw, Na Gar Eye, Meet Zeat, Yone Pine, Kyaung Don, Ma Rot Chai, Hlell Sate, Pa Nan Pone and Thar Yar Wati (Tell Chaung) in Yebyu Townships are providing support to the People’s Defense Force and have imposed travel restrictions.
