May 10, 2024

On May 8th, 2024, a military junta’s regiment targeted Ah Nin village, Thanbyuzayat Township, Mon State with multiple artillery attacks forcing villagers to flee their homes.

This came after resistance forces attacked the police station in Ah Nin village. The 317th  artillery regiment based in Well Fare village, Hnit Ka Yin village, fired at least eight 120mm artillery shells at Ah Nin village.

I don’t know how many houses were damaged. The villagers have to run into the nearby forest and mountain and some are hiding in the plantation. We don’t know exactly about the number of injuries and casualties,” said a local source.

The resistance forces are stationing themselves in Karen villages near Ah Nin and Well Wun villages and residents worry about the potential for an armed clash.

When there was an armed clash in the previous month, a navy ship immediately approached Ka Rope Pi village. We don’t want to have an experience like Dhammasa village,” said a local woman from Ka Rope Pi village, Thanbyuzayat Township.
