Five women killed and 16 injured by artillery attacks within two months in Mon State

HURFOM: In January and February, 2024, five women were killed while another 16 women were injured by the junta’s indiscriminate artillery attacks, according to the Humanitarian Aid and Rescue Department of the Mon State Federal Council (MSFC).

Junta’s artillery attacks killed three women from Bilin Township and injured numerous others.  The killings included a woman from Thaton Township and a woman from Ye Township while five women from Bilin Township, five women from Ye Township, three women from Kyikemayaw Township, two women from Thaton Township and a woman from Thanbyuzayat Township sustained injuries.

There were many women and children who sustained serious injuries. But our department can provide support to only ten of them,” said an official from the Humanitarian Aid and Rescue Department.

Bilin, Kyike Hto, Thaton and Ye Townships are the townships that experienced the most indiscriminate artillery attacks and the victims have included children who are under 18.

In 2023, four women were killed and more than 50 women were injured by the junta’s indiscriminate artillery attacks, according to the Department.
