Man steps on a landmine and loses his leg in Tha Yet Chaung

HURFOM: On March 11th, 2024, a man from Tha Yet Hna Kwa village, Tha Yet Chaung Township, Tenasserim Division stepped on a landmine and lost one of his legs.
60-year-old U Myint Soe was going fishing with his friend, when he stepped on a landmine.
“The stream where they went fishing is located near the military check-point. The soldiers arrived soon after the explosion and sent him to the hospital,” said a Tha Yet Hna Kwa villager.
U Myint Soe was sent to Tha Yet Chaung Township General Hospital but later, transferred to the Dawei General Hospital due to the severity of his injury.
“The place where he stepped on a landmine is just 1,000 ft away from the military check-point,” said a local villager.
Since February, 2024, there have been five landmine victims in Dawei and Tha Yet Chaung Township and one person has died while the other four lost their legs.
