Number of matriculated students declines five fold since the attempted coup

HURFOM: The matriculation examination will be held from March 11 to 19, 2024, without any breaks all across Burma.
Mon State routinely had about 30,000 matriculated students, but that number has declined five-fold since the attempted coup.
In Mon State there are now 5,767 matriculated students, according to the Chief of the Education Department in Mon State.
“The matriculated students must move to Ye two days in advance of the exam. Then, they have to stay in Ye till the end. The students’ parents have to cook for them in rotation. The parents also have to routinely sleep with them,” said a student’s parent from Ye Township,
Mawlamyine Township has the most matriculated students with 1,440 while Kyikemayaw Township has the least students with 303.
In the 2022-23 academic year, there were 5,768 matriculated students in Mon State.
