HURFOM: In the first week of March, 2024, six villagers from Thanbyuzayat Township disappeared and no one has been able to be in contact with them.
On March 6, 40-year-old Nai Than Zaw, 50-year-old Nai Ah Kyel and two of their friends left home to buy cooking items and invited people for an “ordination ceremony”, but they never returned home.
“Some villagers said they saw two of them in Win Pa Tote village. They aren’t native here so I think an armed group might have arrested them. We’ve traced them but have no clue,” said a villager who is close to Nai Thein Zaw.
On March 2nd, 2024, two 40-year-old men, Nai Kun Tea and Nai Kun Tel, from An Khel village, Thanbyuzayat Township were detained by an armed group and, like the others, no one has been able to reach them.
Both the military junta and revolutionary forces are active in Thanbyuzayat Township and there have been frequent arrests of civilians.
