Junta military operation in Long Lone results in arrest of villagers

HURFOM: On August 26, 2023, a military unit of 60 troops launched operations on the villages of Sam Hlam, T Sit, Htet Gone Pyin and Phoe La Maw in Long Lone Township, Tenasserim Division.
As a result more than 400 villagers had to flee from their homes, and the military arrested about 20 villagers.
“They searched houses and shops at Sam Hlam. Then, they entered T Sit village and Phoe La Maw Beach in the evening using a jungle route. They arrested about 20 villagers,” said a local villager.
Over the course of the multi-village operation, the military arrested approximately 60 villagers in total and is detaining them in the monastery in T Sit village.
“It looks like they arrested villagers to serve as a human shield. Residents from surrounding villages had to flee at night,” said one T Sit resident.
