The armed group stopped the bus and ordered all travelers off the bus. Then, they arrested Driver Ko Si Thu and two assistants and took them by bus to Kwan Hlar village.
The express bus was found by company officials and members of the junta near the cemetery in the east part of Kwan Hlar village at 1 am on January 6th.
The driver and assistants remain missing as of January 8th. No local armed group has announced or released a statement about the arrest.
“All travelers had to walk back to the town. They had to request help from passing motorcars to reach their destinations. The express bus had a GPS system so it was found nearby the cemetery at the east part of Kwan Hlar village. The bus is being kept at the Mudon Town Police Station,” said a local source.
The armed group did not harm the travelers nor take their belongings or cash, they only arrested the bus driver and assistants.
The New Mon State Party (AD – anti military dictatorship) is the dominant armed group active along the Mudon – Thanbyuzayat Highway Road. On November 6th, 2024, the group arrested a manager and two staff from “Honda Myanmar” plywood factory but released them three days later.
