HURFOM: On September 12th, 2024, the People’s Defense Force attacked the Maung Ma Kan Police Station, in Long Lone Township, Tenasserim Division. Soon after the attack, a junta’s regiment had launched a military operation on Maung Ma Kan village and arrested ten local villagers.
Seven of the ten were released on September 29th, but 30-year-old Ko Myo Kyaw, Ko Karm Karm and a 20-year-old young man were excluded from the release list.
Locals reported to HURFOM that shortly afterwards, their dead bodies were found in a well near a temporary military base where the regiment had stationed themselves.
“The dead bodies were thrown into the well. We don’t know how they were killed. We found their hands were tied with a rope. The bodies had decayed when we found them,” said a Maung Ma Kan resident.
The junta’s regiment has launched military operations on Maung Ma Kan village beginning the last week of August, 2024 and they have frequently battled with the local People’s Defense Forces.
The ongoing battle and indiscriminate artillery attacks have forced most residents from Maung Ma Kan, Min Yat, Pa Nyint, Ta Myaw Kin and Thout Kyar Pyin villages to flee to Dawei City.
