Junta’s artillery attack injures child in Bilin

HURFOM: On August 26th, 2024, despite the absence of any armed clashes, the junta’s 314th artillery regiment launched an indiscriminate artillery attack on Taung Kalay village, Dough Yat village tract, Bilin Township, Mon State.   The regiment is based in Zee Wun village and their attack injured a child, according to the Thaton District Karen National Union.

One of the artillery shells exploded on a house in Taung Kalay village and debris from the artillery explosion penetrated the thigh of nine-year-old Grade-2 student Maung Win Ko Ko. The explosion also destroyed the house.

The artillery shell dropped and exploded in Taung Kalay, there was no armed clash taking place. A child was injured. Now, many villagers have left the village,” said a Taung Kalay resident.

On August 17th, 2024, the junta launched an artillery attack on Taung Kalay village and killed two villagers and injured five other residents.

Due to the frequent armed clashes and artillery attacks by the junta, more than 500 residents from Taung Kalay village have taken refuge in the nearby mountains and forests.
