Elderly woman killed by artillery explosion in Long Lone

HURFOM: At about 5 pm on August 22nd, 2024, a battle took place between the military regiment who are based near the Dawei River in Sin Sake Ward, Dawei City, Tenasserim and the revolutionary forces on the opposite riverbank in Long Lone Township.
After the battle, the regiment targeted nearby villages with indiscriminate artillery and five artillery shells were dropped on Htein Twin village, Long Lone Township. The explosions killed 81-year-old Daw Phwar Gyi.
“At the battle, the artillery attack came from Za Har village, Dawei City. Three artillery shells dropped at the center of the village while other two dropped at the periphery. The artillery debris hit the back of Daw Phwar Gyi while she ran away from her house –, she died as a result,” said a Htein Twin resident.
The explosions also destroyed two houses, one common hall in the village monastery and two motorbikes.
“Now, nearly the entire village dare not stay in the village at night. They just come back for a while and check their homes in daylight,” said another Htein Twin villager.
