HURFOM: Constant military tensions since late July 2024, between the military junta and the joint forces of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) in Hnin Zone, San Pya and Done Phi villages, Ye Township, Mon State has led to thousands of the residents fleeing their homes.

The potential for a major battle is on residents’ minds. “The battle hasn’t broken out yet, but the junta has frequently launched artillery attacks. Most of them exploded outside the village. Now, only middle-aged men have remained in the village to guard their houses,” said a Hnin Zone resident.

Elderly persons, women and children have already fled to Lamine Town.

The junta has also reinforced their troop presence in the Northern Ye Township and the 317th artillery regiment has targeted Hnit Ka Yin, Maw Ka Nin and Hnin Zone villages with constant artillery attacks.

The villagers from Maw Ka Nin, Yaw Thit, Ka Nin Ka Maw, Aung Thar Yar and Lane Maw Chan located alongside the Ye-Thanbyuzayat Highway Road are hearing the sound of small and heavy weapons every day. Security has also been tightened in the area,” said a Maw Ka Nin resident.

On July 29th, 2024, the People’s Defense Forces operating under the National Unity Government urged local people not to use the Ye-Thanbyuzayat Highway Road after 6 pm.
