Junta imposes curfew and threatens villagers after navy base attacked

HURFOM: On May 3rd, 2024, the junta’s navy base in Ka Lar Gote Island, Lamine Sub-township, Ye Township, Mon State was attacked by resistance forces.

After the attack, the junta imposed a curfew banning people from going outside from 8 pm to 4 am in Kaw Dut, Ka Doe Sake, Hnit Ka Yin, Da Min Sake, Tha Pyay Yaw Thit and Car Sake villages which are within the Lamine Sub-township. Additionally, junta-appointed village Administrators threatened that plantation workers and visitors who failed to file visitor’s reports would be severely punished.

“If you recruit plantation workers, you must file a report to the Administrator. Then, if you go outside during the banned time, you’ll be arrested and they’ll punish you as they like. They said they’ll punish severely,” said a woman from Kaw Dut village.

Since the May 3rd battle, junta military helicopters have been patrolling over the villages in Lamine Sub-township.

“The aircraft are flying every day here. We’ve also heard the sound of artillery attacks at night. We’re worried about possible armed clashes,” said a resident from Lamine Sub-township.

Elderly persons and villagers from Ka Lar Gote Island have slept at the monasteries at night and locals are preparing to flee from their homes.
