Local woman from Dawei steps on landmine and loses her leg

HURFOM: On February 2nd, 2025, 50-year-old Daw Naw Jue Nee Tar ran over a landmine while travelling along the Dawei – Htee Kee Motorway, Dawei Township, Tenasserim Division. She was returning from her plantation by motorbike, the explosion took one of her legs.
“She ran over a landmine nearby the bridge at the exit of Mitta Town. Her motorbike was destroyed by the explosion and she lost one of her legs,” said a resident.
Daw Naw Jue Nee Tar has been receiving treatment at the Mitta Town General Hospital.
According to the locals, since February, 2024, the military junta has planted landmines around their strategic military hill nearby Mitta Town.
“The plantation workers dare not use the motorway due to the landmine explosion. We have to use jungle routes when we go to our plantation,” said a Mitta resident.
On January 22nd, 2025, a local man from Wa Gone village, Dawei Township had stepped on a landmine in his plantation and lost his leg.
In January, 2025, there were at least four landmine explosions in the vicinity of HURFOM offices in Mon, Karen and Tenasserim regions, and the explosions injured 12 civilians.
