HURFOM: On October 5th, 2025, the Kyarinnseikyi Township New Mon State Party interrogated a 40-year-old married man from Way Thar Lee village, Kyarinnseikyi Township, Karen State for repeatedly raping a female child.

The man named Ko Chan repeatedly raped a 17-year-old girl from the same village for more than a year.

In late September, 2024, Ko Chan lured the girl by offering her a job on his family’s rubber plantation in Thailand. The girl’s family trusted him and allowed their daughter to accompany him to Thailand.

Ko Chan took the girl to the Three Pagoda Pass Town and used “sleeping pills” before raping her in a guest house.

He threatened, “I already raped you during your sleep and also took the photos. If you tell home about the rape, I’ll post the photos online”,” said the victim.

The girl worked at his rubber plantation for more than a year.  Ko Chan, threatened and repeatedly raped the child over the course of a year.

Ko Chan is a married man and has a daughter.

When I wanted to phone my family, he forced me to have a conversation in front of him. He listened to what we talked about. I had been in Thailand for more than a year, but he would not let me go anywhere or meet anybody. I had to stay only on the plantation. He repeatedly raped me whenever no one was around,” continued the girl.

During her stay in Thailand, Ko Chan restricted her phone call and movement and forced her to take contraceptive pills.

Only when the girl was able to return to her native village, was she able to share what happened to her with her parents.   They filed a report with the Kyarinnseikyi NMSP on October 5th, 2025.

Local sources reported to HURFOM that the NMSP interrogated and arrested the rapist; however, it is unknown what punishment will be imposed. Local sources added that Ko Chan has committed such crimes in the past.
