HURFOM’s October 2025 issue of the Mon Forum is now available in English. This month’s bulletin looks at how the junta’s so-called election is unfolding in the middle of war – with intensified military operations, air and drone strikes, and growing fear across Mon State, Karen State, and Tanintharyi Region.

The bulletin documents forced displacement from Kaw Ka Rate and Dawei areas, houses and villages burned, children killed by airstrikes, and daily arrests and extortion in the lead-up to the planned vote. It also follows the dangerous journeys of hundreds of undocumented migrants trying to cross into Thailand, and presents updated data on landmines, artillery attacks, and airstrikes from January to October 2025.

At the heart of this issue are the voices of local people who describe living with aircraft overhead, shells landing near homes, and a “sham election” that brings more soldiers instead of safety. HURFOM’s field teams continue to take great risks to document these abuses so that communities are not left invisible or unheard.
