Local man lost his leg in landmine explosion near 106th regiment

HURFOM: At about 4 pm on May 7th, 2025, a local man stepped on a landmine in a rubber plantation near the 106th Light Infantry Battalion (LIB) based in Maw Ka Nin village, Ye Township, Mon State and he lost one of his legs in the explosion.

The landmine victim is 42-year-old Nai Tin Moe Aung and he has been receiving treatment at the Lamine General Hospital.

Nai Tin Moe Aung and his friend came back home on the Maw Ka Nin – Ye Road and when reaching near the 106th LIB, Nai Tin Moe Aung said he wanted to urinate and entered into a nearby rubber plantation. We stepped on a landmine in the plantation.

Nai Tin Moe Aung wanted to urinate and entered the nearby plantation. His friend didn’t wait for him and came back home. He heard an explosion sound later. The Major of the LIB called an ambulance and sent him to the Lamine Hospital,” said a villager.

He sustained a severe injury to his right leg and had to have his leg amputated from the knee at the Lamine Hospital.

In 2025, there had been nine landmine explosions in Mon, Karen and Tenasserim areas and three people were killed while other 15 residents, including children, were injured.
