Junta arrests young men in Bilin: 30 million MMK per head demanded for release

November 12, 2025

HURFOM: Bilin Township villagers report that the military junta has been conducting more and more night arrests alongside the Bilin – Taung Zoon village road, demanding 30 million MMK per head to release those they arrest.

No one dares to go in the street after sunset. No one is outside after 7 pm. If you go outside, you will be arrested for sure. If someone is arrested, family members must react immediately. They must pay 30 million MMK for the release. Those who can pay the money are released but if you have no money to pay, your loved ones will disappear,” said a Bilin resident.

Those arrested are detained in the Bilin Town Police Station while junta soldiers contact family members demanding a ransom for their release.

Residents told HURFOM that nearly 30 young men in Bilin Township are routinely collected as conscripts for every batch of the military training.

We can’t describe how bad the situation is in Bilin. No one dares to go to have a bath (in their compound) at night. They’re afraid of being arrested,” said a local villager who prefers to remain anonymous.

In Mon State, village/ward administrators are collecting “conscription fees” on a monthly basis, to avoid recruiting their own young men into military service, and at the same time, the military and its alliances are conducting night arrests to forcefully collect conscripts.
